[Thirty-Day Meme] - Day 06

I believe this means I'm all caught up. That said, we continue on to:
Your day, in great detail
...yeesh. I get it. I'm supposed to Exposition Man the whole thing. You don't need to keep saying it.
Today was interesting, actually. And by interesting, I mean it started with the commute from hell. I'm not even bothering to capitalize it, I'm that pissed off about it.
I knew Golf was going to be under construction, at least around the I-294 overpass.
I was in gridlock for over an hour. They had blocked up the road down to one lane all the way from River to Shermer.
Most of you have no idea what that means. I will clarify. It took me a full hour to go this stretch of road. I would understand if they had been actually working on stuff, but there were no warning signs previously. Whenever they do a large stretch of road (never even FOUR MILES of a major street), there's always some sort of notification, a light-up sign saying it'll be like this for a certain period of time. There was nothing.
(Semi-related note: If you ever know you're going to be late, due to traffic or whatnot, it's always a good idea to call your boss as soon as you can to say so. They appreciate the notice, and doubly appreciate the fact that you aren't just sauntering in after your scheduled start time.)
When I got to work, I was in the turn lane to get to the employee parking lot, and a semi was blocking the gate. It took me half a light to realize that this brilliant 18-wheeler was maneuvering to get in at that gate, despite the fact that it was too small for the truck, and the shipping/receiving gate was on the complete other side of the building. I watched it finally pull up to the gate and stop, as it realized it needed a card key to raise the gate. At that point, I pulled out, made it to the other gate (the one the truck was supposed to use, and doubled back around to the parking lot.
(The truck was still there, blocking the gate as I passed by, though the gate was raised by then.)
I leave my apartment at 7:20 to get to my office before 8:00. It doesn't take that long to get there, but I account for traffic and the occasional road closure. I even left ten minutes early today, 'cause I knew they had been doing something on the I-294 overpass on Friday. This wasn't enough. I finally clocked in at 8:45.
Good thing today I'm covering at Reprographics, which is a job I enjoy whenever I'm allowed to do it. Running print/copy jobs, making booklets and other really neat things...it's definitely relaxing. It's also usually slow, which allows me to get reading or writing done with little-to-no interruptions.
