To break myself out of my writer's block, I've decided to do a series of Aberrant-verse character pieces. They will be short ficlets; I cannot call them drabbles, or double-drabbles, since they do not adhere to the strict 100 and 200 word count.

Perhaps later I'll challenge myself, and work on a drabble. I don't know.

Anyway, I'll start posting them here. Once I've got enough of a set, I might decide to transfer them to the Church guild.

Darkness is not the same as Loneliness.

Gendou Kurohisa was not used to having friends.

Every class that he attended in the Academy was an exercise in futility. The other children did not understand him – when they were not edging away to the other side of the room, they were mocking him as if they thought he could not hear.

He could hear.

He understood it. He did not like it, but he understood. He was an abomination; an Aberration, in the purest sense of the term. At least the others could have some measure of humanity, regardless of their manifestation.

And then it all changed. He was not able to pinpoint a specific timeframe, but sometime near the end of his time at the Academy, there were people that accepted him, who did not flinch at the sight of him. People who counted on him on missions, and that he found he could count upon in return. People who actually enjoyed his presence, his company.

People who accepted him as one of their own.

Gendou Kurohisa was not used to having friends. But, he considered, he was willing to become accustomed to the concept.

Very nice. I'm glad to see someone is putting the aberrantverse to good use.
