So my parents and I discussed the computer/internet situation again. I was able to prove what I needed to, and they voiced their concerns.

Yesterday, they decided to "help" me choose a computer. Instead of me buying a new computer with the specifications I want, they wanted me to choose instead Kelly's old computer, and let me upgrade it as much as I can. How old is Kelly's old computer? It's when an 8 gigabyte was considered big.

Not 80. 8.

After finding out that there isn't a second slot for a hard drive (thus making it easy to transfer everything to the 80 gig drive that I purchased yesterday), my dad decided that maybe that computer wasn't such a good idea. So he offered something that I found much better; the current family computer that I use normally. That would become my computer, I'd switch the CD drive for the RW one in Kelly's old one, switch out the 16 gigabyte hard drive for the new one I bought, and upgrade the memory past 256 (512 may or may not be the max for that one; I'll go for a gig if I can). Still cheaper than buying my own computer, I guess.

Why didn't I take their second option and buy my own computer anyway? My parents hit me with the "You really should be saving your money, and we don't want you spending it on a computer if you don't have to."

Based on past experiences with similar phrasings, this translates to "You'll take our offer or we'll make sure that you won't get internet access in your room."

So I took what I could get and am praying that I'm able to upgrade it as much as I need to.

Regardless, I really need to find some way to easily afford moving out.

I have another computer I was gonna use for parts that you're more than welcome to. I'm not sure whats all in it, but its more or less intact and sounds newer than what you have. If you want it, come get er! (needs a wiped out HD and a new copy of windows, but Ive been told it can run XP with no problems.)

Yeah, its just sitting here taking up space, and since I have another one for my uses being fixed, I don't need this one. You're more than welcome to it.
