The solar system is comprised of seven planets. The first is a dead rock, being too close to the sun to worldshape it. It has a very slow rotation, however, and proposals have been made to start a mobile mining operation on the dark side of the planet. All these ideas have so far been shot down in committee.

The second planet is far enough out from the sun to be able to easily support life. It's a little bit larger than Lost Terra, and has a little bit higher gravity, but not enough to make it unbearable. There are three major continents, each with a large city with fully-functional public spaceports. There are several stations in orbit. Most of them are Orbital Defense Platforms, left over from the Expansionist Movement (more on that in a later post). Most of these stations have been converted for other uses; habitation, spaceports, warehouses, laboratories - anything that they can be used for. In a much higher orbit is an incredibly large shipyard. Materials are shipped to it, and the larger military ships are built there. (Most ships are built ground-side.)

The third planet is also dead. A mining company is stationed on the surface, and is self-contained. This planet has a few communications sattelites in place, as well as a rather large orbital laboratory. This laboratory is where the organic computer modules - hereafter referred to by the temporary name of BOSMAN Units - are manufactured and shipped out. Shipments are made by large, government-sanctioned corporations. (Think an upgraded version of FedEx and UPS, as opposed to private transport ships, such as Seraph's Wake.)  EDIT (4/27/06): Private transport companies do occasionally get hired out, but only after extensive background checks and security clearances.

The fourth planet is a gas giant - it's orange-yellow, and has six moons. One of these moons has been worldshaped, and currently has a population. It's a rather large moon.

Between the fourth and fifth is an asteroid belt. Proposals are currently in committee to build a mining colony just outside the belt, so that metals can be mined from the asteroids. There are rumors of a pirate clan hidden in the asteroids, coming out and hijacking the occasional transport ship towards the outer system; the military has yet to see evidence of piracy, and therefore the rumors remain unsubstantiated.

The fifth planet is also one of gas; two moons, both of them lifeless. A mining colony is situated on the outer-most moon.

The sixth planet is cold and lifeless; there is an abandoned research station situated on the surface. Officially, it was abandoned in favor of the orbital station above Planet Three.

The seventh planet is tiny, frozen, and worthless. There is the remains of a mining colony there, but it has been abandoned for a hundred years.
