Starting to get worried.

So I've been sick for over a week now. Usually when I get sick, it's over in a matter of days. But I've had a persistant cough, and sometimes I cough so hard that it gives me a headache that is pretty horrible.

I was feeling absolutely great this morning, and I think I over-exerted myself when I went to help Melissa and John move, because later this evening I was back to giving myself a headache and worrying our guests.

My parents say that it could be bronchitis, which means it won't go away without medical intervention. I honestly think it was mostly that I went and moved heavy boxes and furniture in hot and damp and rainy weather and that made it worse when I was on the mend.

We'll see how I'm feeling tomorrow. If I'm still pretty horrible, I'm going to find out what hoops I need to jump through with my HMO provider; according to my parents, I can't just walk into the hospital unless I get a referral.

If it lasts past tomorrow, I'm going to get scared.

In comparison, I've been taking megadoses of B and C vitamins, getting a 0.8 BAC off of NyQuil, and while I am still coughing and have the sniffles, it's obviously subsiding.

Get some vitamins from the store and take a lot of hot baths. Put some Vicks VapoRub on your chest and your upper lip; it helps too.

So who knows? Maybe you caught something on top of what you gave me. Which, ew. Because I didn't get the fever or strong headaches with mine. Keep us posted.

That sounds roughly like what I had last winter. Nasty phlegm-y cough, fatigue, etc. I even skipped school a couple times, and I never skip school for colds, but it was just knocking me on my ass. It -did- eventually go away without medical treatment---in fact, when I went to the doctor after a week or two of having the cough from hell, they basically told me "it's a bad cold, come back if it gets worse". But hey, there really isn't much they can DO for a viral infection, really.

In any case, you're not going to die, so don't get scared. Get annoyed, 'cause being sick sucks.

Also, how do I email you this chicken soup? I can't figure out how to connect this funnel to my USB port...

Good God man -- get to a doctor, please! Bronchitis is extremely nasty -- when I had it, they had me on antibiotics and bedrest for a week! (Which, as a teenager missing school, is pretty sweet. As an adult missing work, it would probably suck, I imagine ... )

I feel better again this morning, so I think that just means I should just keep resting until it's gone. If it doesn't go away, then I'll go see a doctor.

Not anymore. I'm not covered under my parents' insurance anymore, so I had to use the health insurance under my job, which is an HMO and thus a pain in the ass.

By the way, in the TMI category - is your phlegm still green or yellow? Once it goes clear you should be mostly uninfected, even if you're still coughing.

Don't be scared if it is bronchitis. The majority of cases are viral, meaning even if they do give you drugs, they are only easing sypthoms. Over all if you have that, what you need the most is rest, rest, rest, and MORE REST.

Lots of liquids, plenty of Vitamin C, and MORE REST.

It will work its way out of your system, but it will take a while just because of where bronchitis is in your system. (Weird arse bronchi tube.)

Yeah, everything's much better except this cough that is very slowly going away. And I know what's aggravating it, too.
