Am I the only one that pronounces "quixotic" as "Kee-hot-ick" or "Kee-hoe-tick"? As in Don Quixote, the Lord of La Mancha; his destiny calls and he goes.

Everyone I've ever heard pronounce the word, however, pronounces the X as an X. And yes, I realize that it's correct within the English language, but it doesn't sit right with me.

Enh. I guess it doesn't matter.

i pronounce the X. though now that you point it out, it does seem odd that it's derived from Quixote (as in Don) but the official pronounciation is changed significantly.

I asked around before because I kept switching between the two, and it seems both pronunciations are correct.

I've kept it as Kwix-AW-tik in my brain for awhile now, though.

That's how it's pronounced as a name - Quixote. But the word quixotic is apparently different.
