Say, Parker, do you have any quarters?
May. 25th, 2007 03:16 pmI've been reading fanfiction again.
I know, I know. You don't have to tell me. But you can find honest-to-god gems in the midst of the crap. You know they're hard to find, and you know that you'll probably die of the toxicity before finding anything, but sometimes...you get lucky.
So one of the unspoken rules is that you don't give Xander superpowers, right? That's his thing, he's the normal one, he's the grounded one, he's the one that sees things because nobody's watching him. Any time a fanfic author tries to give him powers, the story is just contrite and nothing special.
I found something that's actually kinda good. Yes, once you get past the fact that Xander was given powers - NEVER EVER DO THAT, by the way - it's a good read. I'm a couple chapters in and I don't want to gouge my eyes out, so that's a good sign, right?
We'll see how it goes the further I go in.
