Hunter Viability
May. 24th, 2007 03:36 pmAs I've said before, Krajin right now has a perfect pure-DPS instance spec. Big numbers, big crits. Not so much crowd-control ability aside from standard pet moves and a working knowledge of chain-trapping, but that's enough for most instances.
Soloing ability, also as I've said before, had gone WAY downhill. I'd pull aggro from just white damage alone, meaning I'd then stop the DPS because of feigning/concussing/wingclipping and trying to get back into range. Soloing is possible, yes, but frustrating and takes way too long.
I know for a fact that I won't be able to join quiXotic in Karazhan until all of it is on farm status. My father randomly eats my bandwidth, killing my reliability in instances and slowing all my reaction times by quite a bit, often disconnecting me completely. For a raid, even a ten-man (one would argue especially a ten-man), that's not good enough if my role is important enough that I can't lose any reaction time at all.
I'm not Quad. I can't raid on auto-pilot with one hand while chaintrapping and spinjumpshooting and whatever other crazy tricks he does and looks down on others for not being able to do, all the while talking to his girlfriend on the phone. I'm not going to pretend that I can half-ass a job and still come out on top; if I'm going to be doing something important, like an instance or a raid, I'm going to make sure I'm giving my all. I'm going to need to be able to be useful, to make people want me to go along because I'm good at being a Hunter, not because there's pity being taken upon me.
I also can't do nothing but instances. I don't have the time to sign online, try and pull a group together for three hours, spend an hour waiting for the others to get ready, and then give up after the first pull. (This applies to both PuGs and guild runs; names will not be named.) But if I can't have fun on Krajin, there's no point to play him. Instances are fun, but that's not all I should be able to do.
I've been playing around with other specs than Marksman, and giving Quad's ideas some merit in my head. (gasp!)
I'm probably going to go back to Beastmastery. It was wicked fun for the few levels I had it for, and made soloing WAY easier than it is right now. Especially considering that I quested all those levels, instead of instanced them like I did from 30-60. Hopefully it'll allow me to get back into the groove of rocketing through quests and clearing out zones; I've cleared out Hellfire Peninsula, Zangarmarsh, and Nagrand completely. I have plenty to do in Blade's Edge and Shadowmoon Valley, and I haven't even TOUCHED Netherstorm yet.
There are two specs I've been considering.
41/0/20. Beastmastery with a secondary focus on trapping. Gives me much more Crowd Control ability in instances, which is definitely what's needed for when I start getting Heroic keys. The loss of even the most basic Marksman talents will hurt, but I can get over it.
41/17/3. The Beastmastery talents haven't changed one bit, but the others directly complement my own personal DPS, as well as that of my pet. There is absolutely no way I'm ditching even one point of Hawk Eye; that extra 6 yards makes all the difference.
Obviously, the major decisive factor is whether I'll be doing more straight DPS or more Crowd Control. I'm leaning more towards the second spec, mostly because I love Marksman too much to completely give it up.
Please, help me out here.
