Feb. 6th, 2007 03:12 pmA small red light accompanied a shrill beeping, almost directly where Leena’s head was resting on the comm panel. She jerked awake, flailing out at some unseen assailant. Her arm stopped about three inches from the command console as she came to her senses, recognizing the sound as the proximity alarm.
“Larry!” she screeched at the top of her voice. “Larry, we got one!”
A rough voice floated back into the cockpit. “How far out?” The voice was soon accompanied by its owner, poking his head through the door.
The cockpit was small and cramped. There was barely room for both pilot and navigator in the best of situations, and current situations were far from ideal; candy wrappers and empty beer bottles littered the floor and the navigator’s seat. Rather than cleaning up the mess, the twins alternated the piloting duties in the old Valkyrie.
