It's rare that the radio station I listen to at work plays something from the "glory days of '99 pop". Namely, when they play Christina Aguilera, they play her more recent R&B flavor.

Needless to say, "Genie in a Bottle" is a nice change, especially I haven't heard that song since TRL played whole music videos.

What's next? Classic Backstreet Boys? Early N'Sync? 98 Degrees? Might as well go the Full Boy Band Monty.

The music from '98 to '02 is like our bastard, deformed cousin. Nobody wants to talk about him most days, but we fully acknowledge his presence at gatherings and Christmas, and sometimes we prefer his presence to the current ugly stepchildren of rock and soul. I liked boy bands, I thought they had a cool beat and funky fresh dance moves, and they let me have something in common with girls in a time when I tried to get girls to like me. We liked to make fun of Britney Spears like it would go out of style. (Little did we know...)
