Oh, hi.

So, I've got a bit of time now.

First off, I'm going to say that yes, I am still alive and well. Those of you that have seen my Twitter account know that over the past few months, I've been focused on moving. The original plan was to head to Houston; that, however, is another story and shall be told another time.

As of right now, I am sitting in my new apartment in Mount Prospect, Illinois, about twenty minutes from my parent's house and my work. This is my first official time living away from home, and I do have a roommate. (Hi, Tessa!)

The apartment was a great deal; I looked at a few different places online, and came up with a couple locations. My parents and I went around a few weeks ago and scouted, and this one seemed not only the cheapest, but the one in best condition. 1050 square feet, two bedrooms and two bathrooms, second floor with eastern-facing windows (morning sun!).

Here's the kicker. $975 a month, with water AND gas AND heat all included.

The place is great. The price was originally more but they brought it down a lot because the cabinets are really really old. Which I didn't care about; they're cabinets, they work, if they break that's what the 24-hour maintenance number is for.

I spent all last weekend pretending I was going to get a lot of work done in packing for the move. The packing ended up being from 5PM Tuesday to 2AM Wednesday. Anyone here who knows me at all is not going to be surprised in any way, shape, or form to hear this.

Wednesday was better. Tessa came in from Cincinatti, we went and signed the lease and got our metric crapload of keys, then I bribed her with food into helping me load and unload the rental truck to get all my stuff over to the apartment in one day. Was going to have additional help besides her and my brother and my mother - who, incidentally, I kept yelling at to stop lifting heavy boxes because of her back - but things happened and will not be mentioned here at this time.

So the move happened on Wednesday. The cable guy came yesterday to set up our internet and WHOA DUDE THIS THING IS FAST. Sharing a DSL connection with someone who uses lots of torrents on a semi-regular basis, compared to controlling my own internet with cable speeds and a direct connection instead of wireless...yeah. This is kind of neat.

Doing all that packing and unpacking and heavy lifting and everything was great exercise, except the packing was in a musty, mildewy basement (especially when I was unloading my really horrible particle-board wardrobe that's been through at least five minor floods and survived two teenage users and I am surprised it has lasted this long with the floorboards of it all rotted and gross) and moving in wet, almost-rainy weather has given me a minor cold. So I am staying home from work today, partially because being sick when three days a week I am working in the Kraft Presentation Kitchens doing cleaning and just being around open food, and partially because my company (which is not Kraft) for the last couple days has been putting up Influenza Awareness posters and advising people to not spread disease and taking pandemic awareness training (Yes, this is just another strain of flu but it's one that people don't have natural immunity to yet and anyway regular flu still kills thousands of people et cetera) so I thought I'd follow company policy. I really hate calling in sick for work, though; it makes me feel like I'm being a pain.

The Birthday is coming up soon. I've been instructed by many friends to put together an Amazon Wishlist with the address tied to my new address, and I'm working on it. I really can't think of anything I want.

How are you?
