Musical associations
Apr. 10th, 2007 01:05 pmWhen I hear the Goo Goo Dolls, my mind always reverts to one thing. I feel as if I'm back in my mom's store, there with her because I was home sick from school, or it was a day off from school for me but not my father, or - more recently - helping out on weekends or over the summer.
Whenever I hear "So why don't you slide?", I'm sitting on a wooden bench with my feet propped up on the fitting stool, reading some Star Wars novel or another. Whenever I hear "I just want you to know who I am", I'm doing my homework on the desk in the back office. Whenever I hear "Tonight's the night the world begins again", I can smell shoe leather.
It doesn't matter how often I hear them, or where. I hear the Goo Goo Dolls and I revert. It's something that I'll likely always associate with the store, and growing up with it.
