Okay, so I've had the game for about a month now. Krajin's at level 24, I've got a Paladin on Steamwheedle Cartel that's level 16, and the rest are just low-level alts for when I get bored.
Quests are fun, partying is fun when party members aren't total dimwits, and RPing is a blast, though slow because of where my keyboard is. (About 20 degrees to my right.)
Orgrimmar is not too bad to walk through, and it's damned huge, but I don't really like it. Too barren, too...pointy. Which is fine for Orcs, but not for me. It is easy to get around, though, and you can find everything fairly easily. Plenty of mailboxes around.
Thunder Bluff, however, is where it's at. Nice, green, and homey, with a great view. Also very easy to get around; it's layered, so you can get from one end to the other fairly quickly. I definitely prefer going to Thunder Bluff to clear my inventory/get my training/check the Battlegrounds/etc., but the only thing I don't like is that I have to go to Orgrimmar to get Engineering trainers. Thankfully, the flight is only a measly 50 copper, and I'm at a point now where I tend to stay fairly stable at a gold-and-a-half, until I rise two levels and need Hunter and Pet training again. But even though there's usually a lot of people at Thunder Bluff, it's always relaxing going there and taking my time. Orgrimmar just feels too rushed, and not a fun place to hang for a bit.
Undercity? Just plain rocks. Greens and purples and skulls and spiderwebs and big jiggly Abominations guarding it that are just plain adorable (once you get past the green stench-cloud and the visible intestines, that is). Warped and wacky and looks like it was pulled straight from the mind of Tim Burton. Lots of spirals and jagged lines. And did I mention the green river of magical toxic sludge? Visually, it is a masterpiece. Chaotic, but also rather practical. My only issue is that while it's not as large as Orgrimmar, it's harder to get around. There's an inner circle of shopkeepers, then a middle circle that has nothing in it except for a few NPCs and the Faction Battleground-Of-The-Week visitors, and then the huge outer circle that has all the trainers and profession-related NPCs. It takes a long time to get from one part to the next, since you have to navigate the middle circle to get to inner part from the outer, and vice-versa.
Stormwind, despite what Gendou says, is definitely striking. Clean white walls with blue tops - the exception being Old Town and the Dwarven District - and definitely a friendly atmosphere. And despite what I've read online, Stormwind has generally been much more populated than Ironforge, and the Trade District slows down when I walk through. During peak hours, it starts to lag a bit in that section - though definitely not as bad as Goldshire when I was still at 256mb. And while it may be symbolic of everything that is wrong with the Alliance - xenophobia, elitism, political corruption, the Girl Power guild having horrible cybersex on the DeepRun Tram - it definitely leaves an impact. Usually of the pleasant kind. (Provided you've disabled General chat, at least. Stormwind General: At Least We're Not The Barrens)
Ironforge is ugly as all hell. Dark, depressing, polluted; you'd think you were in New York before Guliani cleaned up Times Square. Or after the Times Square cleanup and just after the World Trade Center collapse. I find it visually and morally disgusting. Plus, there are gnomes everywhere. Check, please. [2. Darnassus, while limited in pretty much anything not-Night-Elf-Related, is absolutely gorgeous. Even more tranquil than Thunder Bluff - partially because there's nothing there. You didn't roll a Night Elf and you're looking for a trainer? Unless you enchant, make leather equipment, or make potions, you're SOL. Paladin? Mage? Warlock? Sorry. [nitelfmastr] Whispers: l2p, n00b
